United States coach Jurgen Klinsmann said he may apply for American citizenship sometime in the future.
The 48-year-old former Germany international has been based in the USA for a number of years and took control of the national side in 2011, after a year in charge at Bayern Munich and two at the Mannschaft helm.
It is quite possible that in the future I will take American nationality. It would take a long time for it to be possible and it is a lengthy process, Klinsmann told Bild.
Football is not the top sport here. We may have improved and caught up with other sports, but I can still live relatively anonymously.
Klinsmann s side face Germany in May and it is a fixture he is looking forward to as he bids to show the world just how much progress his team have made under his guidance.
I look forward to that game very much. We can show Germany how far our football has developed here in the United States, he said.
